The company lichtundeisen was founded in 2008 in Vienna by Stephan Slipek
and continues the family tradition of producing handmade lights in the 6th generation.
These lights were manufactured from 1921-2007 in Salzburg by Beleuchtungshaus Schmidt.

Company history Beleuchtungshaus Schmidt

Georg Junger founded a wholesale business for gallantry goods in Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse/Alter Markt in 1858. Even before the turn of the century, he set up a department for lighting, in which the latest articles were offered. In 1921, the grandson of the company founder, architect Adolf Schmidt, took over the lighting department, became a partner in the company and continued to expand this department. In June 1931, he separated the lighting department in Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse from the Junger company and took over the management of the now independent company “Beleuchtungshaus Schmidt”. During the difficult war and post-war years, Adolf Schmidt, his son Walter and his wife Julia ran the business, earned the company a special reputation and achieved healthy growth. The company was known far beyond the country’s borders. In 1959, daughter Ulrike joined the company and learned everything from scratch in-house. Ulrike Schmidt’s fiancé, Heinz Slipek, had also been with the company since 1961, completing his training in electrical engineering and taking care of commercial matters. After the death of Ing. Walter Schmidt In 1977, Ulrike and Heinz Slipek took over the company and have been running it as Ges.m.b.H. ever since. In the following years, the company expanded and in 1985, the 2nd house was opened in Schallmoos. As Ulrike and Heinz Slipek’s two children had other plans in life, the successful house in Schallmoos was closed in 1995 and activities were once again restricted to the parent company.

Beleuchtungshaus Schmidt closed in Salzburg in the fall of 2007.

In 2008, Stephan Slipek reopened the wrought iron lighting production in Vienna next to his architectural office to keep the family tradition alive in the 6th generation. Specializing in the production of lamps, the company again manufactures lamps and furniture, particularly in iron, to customer specifications. All designs and some sample luminaires from past generations can be viewed alongside the new designs by Stephan Slipek in the showroom at Florianigasse 57 by appointment.
